Whitbread Creative Operations | Email Delivery at Scale

Designing a modular operating framework for a high-volume, revenue-critical channel.

Issue
Post-pandemic, email became one of Premier Inn’s most commercially critical channels. Increased personalisation and campaign frequency exposed inefficiencies in production. Each send required significant design, testing and approval effort, creating bottlenecks in a revenue-driving environment.

We needed to scale output rapidly while protecting brand consistency, quality control and mobile performance.

Insight
Email performance relies as much on operational precision as creative quality. In a high-frequency channel, a repeatable structure is essential. Without standardised components, disciplined workflow and clear agency alignment, scale increases risk.

Growth required infrastructure, not more ad hoc design.

Idea
I facilitated the development and implementation of a scalable Email Flexible Framework, aligning Brand, eCRM, Studio and our external agency partner, ITG, around a modular design system.

A shared library of brand-approved components enabled multiple campaign objectives to be delivered without redesigning from scratch. I ensured the framework operated cohesively across in-house and outsourced production, embedding clear specifications, ownership and governance standards.

Creative output was streamlined through batch production, with modules conceived and delivered in coordinated suites spanning tactical, brand and product messaging. This reduced duplication, accelerated delivery and strengthened consistency at scale.

Structured intake and approval processes improved visibility and predictability across teams. The result was not simply templating, but a scalable operating model connecting internal and external workflows.

Impact
Output increased, production time reduced and approval cycles shortened, strengthening brand consistency across all campaign activity.

Most importantly, the channel became operationally resilient, supporting trading, service and lifecycle communications at scale with control and confidence.
